THE NEW STATION 5 - INTEGRATED CLINICAL ASSESSMENT

The MRCP station 5 has recently changed. Now renamed as the Integrated Clinical Assessment station, this new station consists of two 10 minute brief clinical consultations designed to assess the candidates overall approach to a clinical scenario. The candidate is expected to take a focussed history, examine the appropriate systems and communicate the relevant findings and diagnosis or differential diagnosis with the patient as well discuss further investigation and/or management and discuss the patient's concerns in 8 minutes. This is followed by 2 minutes of discussion with the examiner about the scenario.

The cases that will appear in this new station 5 should reflect those that are encountered in daily clinical practice on medical wards, clinics and emergency department.
